Welcome to the C-MORE Kids’ Korner web site — where kids learn about the tiniest creatures imaginable. These tiny plants and animals are called microbes. They live in the oceans and just about everywhere else on Earth. Which is a good thing… because we couldn’t live without them.

Welcome to Whyville! Whyville is a virtual world where boys and girls from all over the real world come to chat, play, learn, and have fun together. You design your face, earn clams by playing games, hang out at the beach, and go to town events at the Greek Theater. You can start your own business, buy a car and give your friends a ride, and have fun while learning about marine microbes. Kids can collect and trade microbe cards, and play a game to emphasize the amazing diversity of marine microbes, and the adaptations they have for survival in the ocean. And you can work with scientitists on the next Algal bloom.

Top right: Kalama Intermediate students collect samples of sea water from the beach at Waihe‘e, Maui. Below right: Back in the classroom laboratory, Makaha Elementary students carefully examine samples under the microscope and record the types of microbes they find. What do we call all of that? * If your kids don't have access to a computer, you can make a quiz booklet. Just print out the double-sided downloadable PDF (2.8 MB), cut each page in half the short way, and then staple into a booklet
